FOUR brothers in Kampung Syed Omar here were detained for drug abuse, three months after their three sisters were caught for failing a drug test.

The brothers, aged between 17 and 30, were detained during a raid by the National Anti-Drugs Agency (Nada) on Monday.

Perlis Nada director Azizah Ahmad said, acting on a tip-off, the agency raided the house at 11pm.

She said the siblings tested positive for methamphetamine.

“In October, we raided the same house and their three sisters tested positive for methamphetamine,” she said.

“We are waiting for the second urine test results on the three sisters.”

She said the raiding team were shocked to discover that the four brothers in the family also tested positive for drug abuse, and learnt that one of them had just become an addict.

She said during the raid, the siblings’ mother, in her 60s, was at home.

“The mother is devastated as two of her sons had been detained for the same offence previously and are currently placed under Nada’s probation.”

Besides the four brothers, Nada had also rounded up 12 drug addicts, aged between 17 and 50, in separate raids at drug haunts in Kuala Perlis, Batu Pahat, Utan Aji, Kampung Binjal, Behor Mali and Permatang Kersik here.

She said the two-day raid, which ended yesterday, were jointly carried out with the Malaysia Border Security Agency (Aksem).
