Confident Jazeman bracing for tough race in Sepang
AFTER his team’s sensational win in Buriram last weekend, Jazeman Jaafar now hopes to consolidate with an equally strong performance at the Asian Le Mans Series (ALMS) season-finale in Sepang on Feb 2-4.
Jazeman and his Jackie Chan DC Racing X Jota racing teammates Weiron Tan and Afiq Ikhwan Yazid are bracing for a tough race on their home track.
The trio had only joined DC Racing midway through the season at the end of last year. Buriram was their first race together in the LMP2 class.
“As I have said before, our long term goal is to go to the 24 Hours of Le Mans (in France) but for now, our focus is on Sepang as we want to finish the season on a high,” said Jazeman yesterday.
“Despite coming from different backgrounds, I think Weiron, Afiq and I have gelled very well.
“Our result in Buriram surprised everyone, including the competitive European drivers in ALMS.
“However, we are still new to the race and we need more time to excel.
“We cannot be overconfident as the standard of competition is very high.
“What we need is more mileage in the car until we are comfortable with it.”
Jazeman, who has not competed at Sepang since winning the Formula BMW Asia Championships in 2007, added that he is looking forward to once again race on his home track.
“I have not raced there for a long time. It will definitely be interesting to compete there in the LMP2 car which has a lot of pace and grip.”
Jazeman had spent the last two seasons competing in the Blancpain Endurance Series. Fadhli Ishak
