Perodua sets 209,000-unit sales target this year

-

PETALING JAYA: Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) has set a 209,000-vehicle sales target this year. This is two per cent higher than the 204,900 units sold last year.

President and chief executive officer Datuk Dr Aminar Rashid Salleh said the slight sales uptick would be mainly driven by continued interest in Perodua’s current line-up.

“The momentum carried by Bezza in 2017 and the continued demand for other models have helped us be the top-selling carmaker in Malaysia for the 12th year running,” he said at the Perodua 2017 full-year review, here, yesterday.

The company sees market share sustaining at slightly above 35 per cent and total industry volume topping 590,000 units this year.

Aminar expects Perodua’s sales to pick up this year on the back of favourable economic conditions and continued momentum in the new Myvi sales.

The new Perodua Myvi had garnered over 36,000 bookings since order-taking began in November last year. To date, more than 11,000 units have been delivered to customers.

Total bookings for the new Myvi reached 85 per cent for the 1.5 variant and 15 per cent for 1.3.

Perodua Manufacturing Sdn Bhd (PMSB), the company’s manufacturing arm, is currently working overtime to ensure deliveries are made within an acceptable time frame.

“Perodua will focus on maximising sales potential of all its models this year to meet the 209,000-unit target,” he said.

Aminar said the increase in demand this year would have a positive impact on vehicle production with an estimated 215,334 units to be produced at both Perodua’s manufacturing facilities compared with 200,146 units produced last year.

Apart from PMSB, which produces the new Myvi and the Alza, Perodua has another vehicle manufacturing unit — Perodua Global Manufacturing Sdn Bhd that produces the Axia and Bezza models. Ayisy Yusof
