FOREST CITY VIDEO MAKES WAVES
Short film on FB tells why development is vital for the land
FOREST City has come up with a short film, which is fast gaining traction on social media. The script, adapted from a true story, follows the life of a fisherman and his son, Iskandar Zulkarnain, with the message that a man’s worth is measured by his goals.
The story begins with Iskandar, played by local actor Syafie Naswip, driving and reminiscing about the past.
In flashbacks, Iskandar describes his childhood and how his father, played by veteran Singaporean actor J.A. Halim, has influenced his life.
He is reminded of the time when he returned from school one day and saw his father talking to two Forest City officials.
Remembering that his father had once advised him to ensure that their land stayed with their family, he wondered why his father was dealing with the officials whom he thought were trying to take away the family’s legacy.
Several scenes then show the difficulties the family has to endure at the time.
Iskandar helped his father to catch fish when he was not in school, and there were times when there was no catch at all, forcing the family to eat plain rice.
But as life went on, Iskandar had an epiphany.
He realised that his father had a bigger plan all along, not just for the family, but the community.
“Dad reminded once that there are many ways to look at things because whatever we see may not be what they really are… and dad’s reminder has opened my eyes.
“All of us have a responsibility to protect our sovereign land — in a different way but still with the same goal,” he says in the fiveminute clip.
Equipped with a new mindset, Iskandar finishes his studies and is offered a position at Forest City.
Several scenes then show him working in the company, developing the same land where he once lived with his family.
“The more developed the state is, the better our lives would become… as one nation, we build our dreams to elevate this land in the eyes of the world.
“And, here I am standing tall with the rest, playing my role,” he says as the video comes to an end.
