UiTM gets cashless ‘Boost’ with mobile app
KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) campuses will soon go cashless in partnership with Axiata’s app-based mobile wallet, Boost.
At the launch of the largest cashless campus to date — the Sungai Buloh UiTM campus — Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said the partnership gave students a chance to adapt to a business mode that would be the norm in the future.
“The future is not only about being cashless, but cardless, too.
“If transactions require a card, then it is not cashless,” said Idris.
“This is part of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and students will have a chance to adapt quickly before they move into the real world.”
Boost is a mobile wallet that allows cash transfers and payments through mobile phones, using QR code scans, at linked outlets.
Axiata president and chief executive officer Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim said the partnership with UiTM meant payments, such as for tuition fees and book purchases, could be made via the app.
“We are starting with campuses in the Klang Valley, such as Sungai Buloh, Shah Alam, Puncak Alam and Petaling Jaya.
“Eventually, all UiTM campuses will be cashless campuses using the Boost app.”
Present was UiTM Vice-Chancellor Datuk Dr Hassan Said, who said the cashless campus initiative, which took only two months to implement, signified that UiTM could adapt to changes quickly.
