Job offers are priority for Erwin Dawson
LIKE it or not, popularity — especially on social media — has become a determining factor for artistes getting job offers in recent times.
So, it is not surprising to find a four-legged feline with 1.1 million Instagram followers landing its own TV show.
However, for Singapore-born actor Erwin Dawson, popularity is the least of his concerns as long as he gets a steady stream of job offers.
“However, I would be nervous if offers do not come my way just because of the small number of followers on social media,” he said at the Media Prima Television Networks Screenings 2018 at The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur recently.
The 29-year-old artiste, who is of mixed Malay-New Zealand Caucasian parentage, is thankful for the opportunities Malaysian production companies have given him.
“I consider myself a newbie as I’ve only worked here for the three years.
“I hope to make it big in Malaysia and I’m happy to find that drama fans have accepted me,” said Erwin, who starred in the tearjerker Bisik Pada Langit, starring Ummi Nazeera, Beto Kusyairi and Jalil Hamid.
Erwin is down to star in ntv7’s new drama series, Nafas. Playing a cancer patient, he says he needs to shed some weight to make his character more believable.
“I’ve been on this new fad called intermittent fasting for the past three weeks,” he said.
Erwin is one of the nine hosts for ntv7’s new daily show, Feel Good Show, which will be aired in March.
Nafas is a series to be directed by Bahri Uma from Orangetree Production Sdn Bhd. It is about a girl named Khadijah (Kilafairy), who loves to travel and indulge in extreme sports. She is diagnosed with stage three lung cancer after her final exams in college. When she loses her cheerful demeanour after the diagnosis, her family sends her to join a cancer support group. There, she meets the cheerful and optimistic Amar (Erwin), who is a leukaemia patient. Amar helps Khadijah to see the brighter side of life, again. By Tahir Alhamzah
