‘Najib right in ending era of crony capitalism’

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The era of capitalist cronies is over and this change needs to be sustained for the good of the people.

Political analyst, Professor Datuk Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was on the right track and need not be influenced by certain quarters.

He said Najib’s open leadership must be appreciated and be continued to allow equal opportunities for all talented individuals.

“Cronyism must end, especially among the Bumiputeras, because we have many eligible and talented people.

“This has been shown by Najib,” Mohamed said yesterday.

He was commenting on Najib’s statement yesterday in which the prime minister said some development programmes under a former leader had only benefited a group of capitalist cronies, who gained wealth at the expense of ordinary Malaysians.

In his speech at Invest Malaysia 2018, Najib stressed that the government, under his leadership, had vowed to end cronyism.

Mohamed agreed that the past leadership’s approach of only profiting certain groups had caused needless problems for the people.

Universiti Sains Malaysia political analyst Professor Dr Sivamurugan Pandian said each leader had a different way and style of approaching the people.

“Najib, through national and economic transformation, has given priority to those in the B40 and M40 categories.

This approach has positively impacted these groups through the 11th Malaysia Plan.
