Court views footage of assassination

-

SHAH ALAM: More than 70 recordings from a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera of North Korean Kim Chol’s assassination at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2) were shown in the High Court here yesterday.

Gateway@KLIA2 security supervisor Syed Fakhruzaman Tuan Mohd Mokhtar, 45, who was responsible for transferring the CCTV recordings of the incident into 10 DVDs, identified the videos that were viewed in court.

He was the 31st prosecution witness in the trial of Indonesian Siti Aisyah, 26, and Vietnamese Doan Thi Huong, 29, who are charged with murdering Kim Chol, claimed to be Kim Jongnam, the estranged half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

During examination-in-chief by deputy public prosecutor Syed Farid Syed Ali, Syed Fakhruzaman said he handed over the 10 DVDs to the investigating officer handling the case between Feb 13 and Feb 21 last year.

The witness confirmed that the DVDs and desktop he used to transfer the videos into the DVDs were in good condition.

“On Feb 21, 2017, two police officers came to see me to view a recording of a case that they were investigating.

“I searched according to the dates and time given by the investigating officer and found the videos.

“I saved the videos in a folder on the desktop. I then burned the recordings from the CCTV into 10 DVDs,” the witness said.

Trial will resume on Monday before judge Datul Azmi Ariffin.

Siti Aisyah and Thi Huong are charged with murdering Kim Chol, 45, with four men still at large, at the klia2 departure hall at 9am on Feb 13.

Kim Chol was killed using the highly toxic liquid nerve agent, VX.
