MEN’S doubles Chooi Kah Ming-Low Juan Shen hope to make the national team for the Thomas Cup finals in Bangkok in May.

The national No 3 were surprisingly not selected for the Asia Team Championship, scheduled next month, in Alor Star.

Kah Ming-Juan Shen are now eager to maintain their consistency in upcoming tournaments to impress the national coaches ahead of the Thomas Cup.

Yesterday, the Malaysians reached the second round of the Indonesia Masters in Jakarta following a 21-18, 19-21, 21-17 win over Denmark’s Kasper Antonsen-Niclas Nohr.

“Of course, we are disappointed for failing to make the team for the Alor Star challenge, but we also realise that decisions are not in our hands.

“Our goal now is to maintain our consistency on court for good results. We have not been performing of late, so we need to work on that.

“We hope to break into the top 20 soon as it will help us get into the squads for the Thomas Cup and Asian Games,” said Juan Shen.

Kah Ming-Juan Shen, however, face a daunting challenge in the second round as they are up against fourth seeds Mads Conrad Petersen-Mads Pieler Kolding, also from Denmark.

Former World No 1 Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong also checked into the second round after seeing off Danish duo Mathias Christiansen-David Daugaard 21-18, 21-13 in the opening stage.

The tournament is V ShemWee Kiong’s third since reuniting late last year.

“We are improving after each match. Things are good. We are ready for the second round,” said V Shem.

It was, however, the end of the road for mixed doubles Chen Teng Jie-Peck Yen Wei who lost 25-23, 21-23, 21-18 to Taiwan’s Wang Chi Lin-Lee Chia Hsin.
