KIM SWEE TO BE ‘SCHOOLED’ IN MADRID

-

of Malaysia (FAM) president Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has confirmed that national Under-23 coach Ong Kim Swee will be sent to La Liga side Atletico Madrid for a coaching attachment in March.

Tunku Ismail said it will help Kim Swee improve on his coaching methods in a move to take his Under-23 side to the next level.

“Kim Swee will be heading to Spain in March for a month or two. This was planned six months ago,” said Tunku Ismail when met at the Malaysia Book of Records certificate presentation to Johor Darul Ta’zim in Johor Baru yesterday.

“I believe the exposure will help him improve in all aspects of coaching which will bring positives to his Under-23 squad.”

Tunku Ismail also hopes the Under-23 players will try their luck abroad.

“I hope all Under-23 players will be able to play overseas one day. Whoever gets the chance or an offer to play in a higher level competition should go... don’t stay here.

“It will benefit the national team in the future.”

Tunku Ismail has also informed national coach Tan Cheng Hoe to assess the Under-23 players and select those who are ready to play for the senior team.

“These young players are our future. That is why I have not been focusing too much on the senior team we have now.

“I hope Cheng Hoe will call up some players from the Under-23 team,” Tunku Ismail added.
