Act quickly, don’t put issue on ice
IF there are discrepancies in the Ice Skating Association of Malaysia (ISAM), the issue should be dealt with quickly.
Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president Tunku Imran Tuanku Ja’afar has urged ISAM to take action following allegation of money not being channelled properly after the Kuala Lumpur Sea Games in August last year.
“I have not heard about the money not being channelled in the right way but if it is not, it should be investigated, he said.
Two weeks ago, it was reported that ISAM will be investigated by the OCM independent disciplinary board following claims that national skater, Muhammad Ameer Iman who is also the association’s president’s (Fadzli Johan) second son, had received a gold medal (although not eligible) as part of the 3,000m short track speed skating relay team that triumphed at the Sea Games.
Tunku Imran said if it concerns athletes like Malaysia’s No 1 figure skater, Julian Yee, the issue should be sorted out before the 20-year-old represents Malaysia flag at the Winter Olympics in Pyeonchang, South Korea from Feb 9-25.
“If there are any grievances (money not being channelled properly), it should be dealt with quickly because it’s as you say... the Winter Olympics is just around the corner and if it concerns someone like Julian, then, it should be something to be directly dealt with,” he said.
Tunku Imran said he can only give his advice on the matter as OCM are involved in funding of national athletes, and the matter falls under the National Sports Council.
