MAG appoints Luqman as chief operations officer of MAB
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) yesterday announced the appointment of Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi as the new chief operations officer (COO) of Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAB), effective February 1.
The position became vacant after Capt Izham Ismail was appointed group chief executive officer.
“On behalf of MAG board, I am pleased to welcome Luqman to this new role. He is an internal talent who started his career with MAB as a mana g e m e n t t r a i n e e,” said Izham in a statement.
With over 20 years with the company, Luqman has knowledge and experience to draw upon when leading the operations and engineering divisions.
“With his six sigma training and completion of Business L e a d e r D e v e l o p m e n t P r ogramme from Oxford University, I am confident he is well prepared to take on the challenge of bringing these two key functions to new levels of efficiency,” he said.
Luqman was previously the CEO of MAB Kargo, the cargo subsidiary of MAG, a role he held since September 2015.
As CEO, he was responsible for the strategic formulation and development of the group’s cargo business strategies and direction.
MAB Kargo saw an 18 per cent growth in business volume through freighter network realignment and strategic partnerships under his leadership.
Luqman led a transformation programme for MAB Kargo that enhanced its position as the leading local air cargo carrier.
This included a digital transformation to capitalise on the growth of e-commerce business in the region.
