SANDAKAN: International movie star Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh is keen to return to the Land Below The Wind to highlight the work done by Sabah Wildlife Rescue Unit.

“I was delighted to see so many changes here in Sabah in terms of wildlife conservation after 10 years of volunteering, while shooting the documentary titled Among Great Apes with Michelle Yeoh here in Sepilok.

“Sabah Wildlife Department’s Wildlife Rescue Unit and the important work it does in rescuing and taking care of Sabah’s endangered wildlife is an awe-inspiring experience that Malaysia should be proud of,” said the Ipoh-born actress of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon on a recent visit to the district.

Yeoh, a former Miss Malaysia turned action heroine, visited the Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Centre and the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in Sepilok.

She was accompanied by Wildlife Rescue Unit acting manager Dr Diana Ramirez.

Yeoh said the establishment of the Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Centre in Sepilok was a new conservation initiative that needed to be applauded and supported.

She said the centre rehabilitated captive sun bears and released them back into the wilds.

At the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, the entourage witnessed the second phase of its orangutan rehabilitation process at the Outdoor Nursery Complex.

The entourage was briefed on the work of the Wildlife Rescue Unit and its role in assisting the Sabah Wildlife Department in conservation and on the human elephant conflict situation in Sabah.
