Anifah at Asean Foreign Ministers’ Retreat in S’pore
PUTRAJAYA: Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman is leading Malaysia’s delegation that arrived for the Asean Foreign Ministers’ Retreat (AMM Retreat) in Singapore yesterday.
Wisma Putra said the retreat would be preceded by the
Meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to Asean yesterday, followed by the Asean Senior Officials’ Meeting today.
“Since this is the first time the foreign ministers will meet during Singapore’s chairmanship of Asean, the discussions at the retreat are crucial in laying the groundwork for Asean’s initiatives and progress throughout the year,” it said.
“Among the issues that will be discussed are the themes introduced by Singapore in its capacity as chairman of Asean, which are ‘Resilience’ and ‘Innovation’. “The foreign ministers are expected to deliberate and strategise on the means to strengthen Asean’s resilience against common threats and challenges, such as terrorism and extremism, maritime issues and cyber threats.
“They are also expected to discuss schemes that may promote innovation in the region.
“Most importantly, the retreat will provide the ministers with a platform to discuss regional and international issues.”
Anifah, who is accompanied by his wife, is expected to raise regional issues that affect the region’s security and stability.
