Singer fends off doubts over mentoring

- By Tahir Alhamzah

AWARD-WINNING singer Siti Sarah Raisuddin was left clueless when some parties questioned her credibility as one of the mentors in TV3’s reality show Mentor Otai.

Not only does the 33-year-old artiste have powerful vocals, she has also been singing professionally for 16 years.

“I may not be the best singer, but I’ve a little bit of experience that I can share with the contestants,” she said during the recording of the show in Bandar Sri Damansara recently.

While naysayers may think that she is too young to become one of the mentors — the other three are Misha Omar, Tam of Spider, and Zarul Husin — the singer is not a greenhorn.

Siti Sarah had won awards at 2003’s Anugerah Industri Muzik and Anugerah Planet Muzik, only a year after releasing her selftitled debut album.

She was honoured with three gold medals at the World Championship of Performance Arts in Los Angeles, the United States, in 2009.

“And I think some people got confused with the title of the show, Mentor Otai. The word ‘otai’ (slang for old-timer) refers to the contestants, not the mentors.”

In the programme, which is slated to premiere next month on TV3, each mentor will choose two contestants, aged between 35 and 55, to be their protégés.

Mentor Otai will be co-hosted by singer-actress Elly Mazlein and Hot FM radio announcer Haziq.
