PERKIM TO RAISE FUNDS FOR COMPLEX
It needs RM600,000 to complete building’s construction
THE Selangor chapter of the Malaysia Muslims Welfare Organisation (Perkim) needs RM600,000 to complete its RM8 million complex here.
Called Perkim Village @ Shah Alam, the complex spans 2,453 sq m and has a main hall, seminar rooms, cafe, surau and space for programmes.
The complex is opened for rental to firms and individuals to generate revenue for Selangor Perkim, which was established in 1964.
Its chief executive officer, Mokhtar Ismail, said the completion of the complex would better serve the needs of converts in the state.
He said Selangor Perkim looked after the interests of 38,000 Muslim converts registered with the body.
“We support their needs through dakwah (missionary work), charity programmes and Islamic education, especially to deserving converts,” he said recently.
Mokhtar said the construction of the complex was timely as it would not only provide convenience to converts, but would also serve to increase revenue for Selangor Perkim.
However, he said, the local authorities had yet to issue a Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC) for the building as Selangor Perkim needed RM600,000 to complete its contruction.
He said the complex involved three phases of construction, two of which had to be called off because of external issues and lack of funds in 2007 and 2011.
“Our efforts through Perkim Selangor Sdn Bhd got the building ready in July last year.
“But, it cannot operate fully as it does not have a Cerificate of Completion and Compliance.”
Mokhtar said Selangor Perkim was taking action to raise funds to complete the construction of the complex, which sits on a land given by Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
He said one of the initiatives was to organise the Selangor Perkim charity golf tournament (Gaps) with cooperation from Media Prima Bhd (MPB) and the New Straits Times Press (NSTP) at Impian Golf & Country Club in Kajang, Selangor, on Feb 10.
“We do not have a steady source of income.
“MPB and NSTP have been selected as they have large followers and this can help us raise funds to complete the constuction.”
He said the participation fee for Gaps was RM5,000 for a “flight” comprising four golfers.
Selangor Perkim would raise funds through other contributions and z akat (tithe) payments.
He said the organisation hoped that the complex could be fully operational before the fasting month.
