‘PAKATAN HARAPAN IS IN A MESS’

They only know how to play politics, says state Umno information chief

PAKATAN Harapan, especially in Selangor, is in a mess with its component party leaders making conflicting statements on the unresolved issue of seat allocation, even as the 14th General Election (GE14) nears.

Selangor Umno information chief Datuk Zein Isma Ismail said the situation was aggravated with PKR deputy president and Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali making scathing remarks about Parti Amanah Negara (PAN).

In response, PAN has labelled Azmin a “clown who loves to joke”.

“The Pakatan leadership in Selangor and the statements they made about seat allocation are all over the place — one is headed north and another plunging down south. It started with Azmin’s remarks on PAN, followed by DAP, and today, it was another statement by PKR vice-president Tian Chua, who denied there was a seat allocation discussion with Tun Dr Mahathir. All their statements are in conflict.

“The people can see for themselves the disagreement in the opposition pact because they argue openly. For me, this is a sign that the state Pakatan is becoming increasingly nonsensical. They are going to split because they are fighting for power at the state legislative assembly level.

“The people need to evaluate this. Is this the level of professionalism of a political party alliance that we want to entrust with power to administer the state? We can see that Selangor has not been properly developed under the Pakatan government, led by Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.

“The welfare of the people, especially from the lower-income group, is neglected. This is the result of us not choosing a political party which can govern the state, but only knows how to play politics,” said Zein Monday.

The Subang Umno division chief said the seat allocation dispute in Selangor would not be resolved despite Dr Mahathir’s assurance that it would be solved.

Zein asked whether Dr Mahathir felt that Pakatan parties would bow down to him, adding that Dr Mahathir must remember that they were his opponents.

“The existence of PKR is a symbol of them being against Dr Mahathir. It would not be easy for Dr Mahathir to resolve this because there is unfairness in the consensus itself.

“Even though Dr Mahathir could make them agree on seat distribution at the top leadership level, there is no saying for sure he would be able to satisfy the hearts of grassroots members and supporters.

“This was what happened in Negri Sembilan when there was chaos, which saw chairs flying because of dissatisfaction with the seat distribution that was done by the state Pakatan,” said Zein.
