MISHA READY TO MENTOR

Singer Misha Omar wants her protégés in ‘Mentor Otai’ to progress and become great singers, writes

“BEING a mentor is a more challenging task than being a contestant on a show,” said singer Misha Omar, 36, who will take on the role of a mentor for the first time on TV3’s reality talent show, Mentor Otai.

She joins three other mentors — Siti Sarah Raisuddin, Tam of Spider and Zarul Husin — on the show, which is set to premiere next month.

The challenge, Misha said, would be in guiding the contestants to reach their full potential.

“I’m feeling the pressure,” she said at the recording of the show in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, recently.

“As a contestant, you will know how much effort you need to put in and how badly you want to ace the contest. But when you’re given a task to polish potential future stars, the first thing that hits you is what kind of personalities and capabilities you will be dealing with as we have yet to meet our protégés.

“At the same time, I don’t know how far my journey as a mentor with my protégés will be.”

In Mentor Otai, each mentor will get to choose two contestants, aged between 35 and 55, to be their apprentices.

“As a mentor, I will provide my expertise and share the experience that I gathered throughout my 17 years in the music scene.

“I want protégés to progress and become great singers,” said Misha, who emerged as a recording artiste after taking part in a singing competition in 2001.

Misha was only 19 when she became one of the finalists of Bintang RTM. In 2002, she recorded her debut album, which featured the hit song, Bunga-Bunga Cinta.

Besides Mentor Otai, Misha will be going down memory lane when she returns to Bintang RTM. This time, she will co-host the talent show, alongside singer-actor Aqasha.

“I will also be recording a soundtrack for an upcoming drama series.”
