FIGURE skater Julian Yee will perform to a song during the Winter Olympics, on Feb 9-25, to tell the world how special, unique and interesting Malaysia is. Julian hopes that the spectators, world wide, in watching him in action through the song “To Build A Home”, will know more about Malaysia.

"For each performance, there is a tale or story behind the song that we choose. I feel that this song is connected in some way to the story of my life.

"It has to do with my origins which is Malaysia, a unique and beautiful tropical country,” he said in regard to using the song as the accompanying theme for his act in the early rounds in Pyeongchang.

“To Build A Home” is a song by English electronic music group The Cinematic Orchestra, with vocals and piano performed by Canadian singer-songwriter Patrick Watson.

It was released as the second single from the group's third studio album, “Ma Fleur” in October 2007.

Julian will need to place himself among the top 24 athletes in the early rounds if he is to advance to the final rounds.

"I feel that home is the most comfortable place in the world for me,” said Julian who trained full-time in Canada in 2016.

Julian said a home does not need to be luxurious but be comfortable for its occupants.

"I want to show that Malaysia is a country that is well known and recognised for all sorts of things because we also do a lot of good, positive things.

“So I want to make sure that many people, especially those from other countries, can see for themselves the best of Malaysia.

"I want to show where I am from and that I am very proud to be representing Malaysia,” said Julian who hails from Petaling Jaya.

Julian’s participation is history in the making for Malaysia as it is the first time the country is participating in the Winter Olympics.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak wished Julian and snowboard athlete Jeffrey Webb all the best ahead of their historic participation in the Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games.

“Good luck and all the best to Julian Yee and Jeffrey Webb who will be competing at the 2018 Winter Olympics. I am confident that the both of them will make our country proud,” said the Prime Minister via a tweet posted on his Twitter account.

Julian has also been given the honour of carrying the torch for Malaysia in the Winter Olympics torch run on Thursday.
