Honeywell to help improve local airlines’ efficiencies

- Bilqis Bahari

SINGAPORE: Honeywell Aerospace, the largest aircraft engine and avionics manufacturer, continues to engage Malaysia-based airlines to provide better solutions and improve their operational efficiencies.

Honeywell Aerospace vicepresident of Air Transport and Regional Commercial Aerospace in Asia Pacific, Brian Davis, said the company would soon make an announcement with Malaysia Airlines Bhd on one of its flight systems.

However, he said the details were confidential at the moment.

“They all (the airlines) face the same problems. For example, the unique weather pattern in this region, such as the cloud development and lightning.

“So in order to solve this, we have developed a system to predict the weather, such as the Go Direct Flight Services,” said Davis at the 2018 Singapore Airshow, here, yesterday.

Last year, low-cost airline AirAsia Bhd had agreed to install Honeywell’s JetWave system to provide in-flight Internet services on its flights.

Honeywell had also signed three contracts with the Singapore Airlines Group to provide it with a variety of services and equipment, including the weather radar, navigation systems, auxiliary power units and predictive maintenance technologies.

The services would help improve the operational capabilities of Singapore Airlines, SilkAir and Scoot.

Meanwhile, Davis said countries in Asia Pacific were projected to be the biggest drivers of passenger demand for air travel from 2016 to 2036 with more than half of the global new passenger traffic coming from the region.

He said from last year to 2036, the Asia region would see a demand for 16,500 airplanes valued at US$2.5 trillion (RM9.78 trillion), driven by the growing Asian gross domestic product and passenger traffic.
