Make-up tips for new moms

-

THEY say that a lot of things fall by the wayside after you become a mother. Heaps of articles across the Internet warn you about sleep deprivation and having to sacrifice so many things for your little one that you will hardly have time for yourself!

The articles I’ve read portray a somewhat scary, sleep-deprived world to step into, but since I am not officially a mother yet, I will not know for sure. But I’m about to become a mother next month and thanks to these articles I’ve read, let’s just say I’ve been well warned about motherly duties.

Now I’ve also read articles that encourage women to not lose themselves to motherhood. I made a promise to myself that even when I’m busy taking care of a little human being, I will make time for myself and ensure I look presentable. I adore mothers who juggle a million things but make no exceptions when it comes to look- ing great. After all, if we don’t take care of ourselves, who else will?

First things first: What I read was that you have to make do with what you have and be resourceful. I’m going to have to accept the fact that I’ll be making less trips to Sephora and more to baby shops or the grocery store to get diapers instead of stocking up on make-up. So, I’ll probably stock up on the beauty essentials I need beforehand.

In my pursuit of wanting to look somewhat presentable at all times after becoming a mother, I came across some makeup tips for new moms on-the-go and it all sounds pretty doable.

HIDE THE PANDA EYES

My sisters tell me to enjoy my sleep as much as I can before I deliver because I’ll be waving goodbye to eight hours of uninterrupted sleep once my little bundle of joy arrives. That only means that the dark circles under my eyes will get worse. Two make-up tools you’ll want to keep inside your make-up pouch as you are on the go — concealer and a foundation. Make sure you conceal the under eyes before you gently apply a layer of foundation (not too much as you don’t want it to appear cakey). Since I will be on the road a lot, I plan to transfer a portion of the concealer and foundation in small travel make-up travel containers in order to make room for them in my bag.

And when your baby is asleep, take the opportunity to rest and put slices of cucumber or lemon under the eyes (of course this only applies when you’re at home).

EYEBROWS

Besides the under-eyes, I think it’s crucial to keep your eyebrows in shape. This would come in handy when you don’t have time to fill them in and define the shape with an eyebrow pencil. It keeps you on the safe side as it won’t appear messy or extra bushy.

If you don’t have time to head to the beauty store (I have a feeling I won’t), a useful tip I read was to keep a pair of tweezers in the car or in your handbag so that you can work on those eyebrows during whatever free time you get.

GOOD QUALITY FACIAL WIPES

In preparation for my little one to arrive, I’ve stocked up on baby wipes, enough to last me a few months because I know I’ll be using them frequently. Now, besides the baby wipes, it would be good to keep a healthy stock of facial wipes for yourself on days when you’re beyond tired to wash your face the traditional way.

THE LIPSTICK

Using a lipstick to double up as a blush is a pretty common beauty hack. I think this beauty hack is pretty useful for moms who have no time to powder the cheek bones with a proper blush. Buy a few of the same type of lipstick, and place them in different bags so that when you head out, you have that same one with you everywhere. When need be, even in the car, you can just dab a layer of lipstick on the lips or on the cheeks.
