TH bonuses to benefit 8.7 million account holders
PUTRAJAYA: Tabung Haji (TH) yesterday announced a depositor bonus (hibah) of 4.5 per cent for the financial year 2017, plus an additional bonus of 1.75 per cent for depositors who have not performed the haj.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom said the two bonuses amounting to RM2.7 billion would benefit nearly 8.7 million active account holders.
“The bonuses have taken into account the payment of zakat amounting to RM68 million,” he said when announcing the Hibah TH 2017 here yesterday.
The total hibah rate for last year stood at 6.25 per cent, he said.
Present were his deputy, Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, TH chairman Datuk Seri Azeez Abdul Rahim and TH Group and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Johan Abdullah.
Jamil Khir said last year, TH recorded a gross revenue of RM4.5 billion, an increase of RM1.1 billion (31 per cent) compared with 2016.
“TH records net profit after tithe (payment) of nearly RM2.8 billion, an increase of RM0.3 billion (13 per cent) compared with the year before. TH subsidiaries contributed RM1.1 billion to TH’s revenue last year.”
He said TH would provide a subsidy of RM12,470 for each pilgrim for this year’s haj season, involving 56 per cent of the total cost of haj.
“This is because the haj cost has increased from RM19,550 in 2017 to RM22,450 (this year). The total subsidy incurred by TH for this year is RM400 million. For the past 10 years, TH has given out RM1.2 billion in subsidies. This shows TH and the government’s commitment to ensure the welfare of Malaysian pilgrims.”
In line with good portfolio management, he said TH had amortised/written off RM470 million for its investment in the oil and gas sector, which was affected by uncertainties.
