IN its fifth year, Drama Festival Kuala Lumpur (DFKL) is expanding its reach by combining all four television stations under Media Prima TV Networks (MPTN) — TV3, ntv7, 8TV and TV9.

MPTN chief executive officer Johan Ishak said by combining the stations, it hoped to attract more people to participate in DFKL 2018.

“Previously, DFKL had focused only on TV3, which caters to the mass Malay-market segment.

“This time, we are expanding the platform by including urban Chinese and Malay viewers through 8TV and ntv7.

“As a start, we have appointed actress and 8TV host Pauline Tan as one of the two DFKL 2018 ambassadors. Besides being a popular face on 8TV, she can undertake responsibilities required of an ambassador,” he said at the DFKL 2018 press conference in Ara Damansara, Selangor, recently.

Tan, 27, a finalist in the Miss Universe Malaysia 2015 pageant, now stars in Malay productions. She appears in director Sabri Yunus’ telemovie, Kebaya Mei Hua.

Another ambassador is Syazuwan Hassan, 26, a “product” of DFKL 2016.

DFKL, an initiative by MPTN, is held to seek new talent, as well as to provide a platform for youth to learn from industry players at workshops.

The two-day workshops will begin on March 31 at Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

Themed #MasaUntukDrama, DFKL 2018 will also have a shortfilm contest, idea-pitching sessions and acting auditions.

The culmination is Anugerah DFKL 2018 in April.

The fans’ choice awards are held to celebrate the works of amateur and professional directors, scriptwriters, cinematographers, composers and actors.

There will be 11 award categories, such as Choice Drama, Choice Actor, Choice Director, Choice Script, Choice Couple and Choice Theme Song.

Fans can cast their votes until March 1 at www.dfkl.com.my.
