7 held, RM4.5m drugs seized

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have crippled a drug syndicate producing and smuggling Ecstasy pills, with the seizure of RM4.5 million worth of drugs and arrest of seven people.

Federal police Narcotics Department (intelligence/operation) deputy director Datuk Kang Chez Chiang said the syndicate had been active for more than six months.

He said the seven suspects, five men and two women, aged between 29 and 52, were arrested here and in Rawang and Gombak, Selangor, between 7.30pm and 10.15pm on Monday by the Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group.

Among the seized items are 28.1kg of Ecstasy powder, 6,690 Yaba pills, 1.6kg of syabu, RM147,000 in cash, 840,000 Vietnamese Dong (RM144), three cars, jewellery and a watch.

“The first raid was in Jalan Loke Yew, where we arrested a man,” Kang said.

“The arrest led us to a condominium in Templer Park, Rawang, where we found a mini drug laboratory, and apparatus and ingredients to produce drugs.”

He said the syndicate’s mastermind was a 42-year-old man, who was arrested with his 29-year-old Vietnamese girlfriend in Karak Highway.

“A man was arrested in Setia Jaya and another three suspects, including a woman, were nabbed in Jalan Loke Yew.

“With the arrests, we have crippled the syndicate, which had been producing Ecstasy pills for the local and Indonesian markets. The worth of the drugs is triple in Aceh.”

Police believe the drugs were smuggled out by air and through illegal ports.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
