PM: Federal Govt has no issues with returning Sarawak’s rights
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has displayed a strong commitment to develop Sarawak throughout his nine years in office.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Abang Openg said this was proven in Najib’s willingness to allow the state government to acquire the Bakun Hydroelectric Plant from the Federal Government.
He said the RM14 billion PanBorneo Highway project was a reflection of Najib’s desire to transform Sarawak.
“Since taking office, Najib has visited Sarawak 59 times, 126 locations, including areas in the interior.
“He never came empty-handed. There are always (announcements of) approved allocations and this proves his commitment to balance the development of this state with other states.”
Abang Johari said this during the opening of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu’s (PBB) 14th annual general assembly, which was officiated by Najib at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching here yesterday.
He said Najib’s sincerity in helping the state had endeared him to Sarawak folk.
“He also laid the foundation for efforts to return some of Sarawak’s rights that were stipulated in the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
“For the past nine years, Najib has implemented a slew of socioeconomic and development transformations.
“This is in stark contrast to a (former) prime minister who ruled for 22 years.”
Abang Johari gave his assurance to Najib that Sarawak would fully support the latter in the 14th General Election.
“In the last state election, PBB won all the seats we contested.
“I give my assurance that we will repeat this feat in GE14.
“I give my assurance that we will deliver an A+ result to Barisan Nasional and I am confident that with that result, Sarawak will remain close to the prime minister’s heart.”
