SSM promotes importance of family institution

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) held a nationwide picnic programme called #JomPicnicSSM to promote the importance of a strong family institution.

SSM is an agency under the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry.

Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Jamil Salleh, who is SSM chairman, said #JomPicnicSSM was held for the first time as part of SSM’s year-long Happy Family Campaign (Kempen Keluarga Bahagia).

Jamil was present with his wife, Datin Seri Dr Asmah Samat to launch the campaign at Titiwangsa Lake Gardens yesterday. Present was SSM chief executive officer Datuk Zahrah Abd Wahab Fenner.

“I hope the programme will continue in the future. It is heartening to see the employees unwinding with their spouses, children and parents.”

He said this healthy activity would reduce stress among the agency’s staff, and it was important for employees to be productive as well as being happy with their families.

“Prior to the launch of the campaign, SSM has been doing various programmes to promote the family institution.

“SSM’s nature of work also brings them closer to the people and business communities, so it is supportive of the cause.”

He said the programme helped to build rapport among employees as they got to know their colleagues’ family members.

During the event, Jamil launched a book on family values that listed 10 actions that could be taken to show care and love for the family.

“The actions include remembering important dates, expressing love, respecting the elderly, speaking politely, praising good deeds of family members, organising family activities and vacations.”

He said the book would be distributed to employees for reference and to inculcate good habits among them.

Zahrah said the programme was special because SSM employees were proactive in making it a success.

She said about 5,000 people, including the family members of SSM employees, attended the programme that was held nationwide, including Sabah and Sarawak.

The #JomPicnicSSM was supported by Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd, Rafflesia The Pearl Centre, Touch 'n Go Sdn Bhd, WWF Malaysia, Yeo Hiap Seng (M) Bhd, Sunway Lagoon Sdn Bhd, Sunway Lost World Water Park Sdn Bhd, Dorsett Putrajaya, Minaz, Glowing Concept Sdn Bhd, Piccabooth and Telekung Siti Khadijah.
