‘3 PROJECTS IN NCER TO CREATE 70,000 JOBS’

Development has macro, micro and grassroots target groups, says NCIA chief

THE Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) said more than 70,000 jobs will be created through three projects under the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER) by 2025.

NCIA chief executive officer Datuk Redza Rafiq said the three projects were Kedah Rubber City (KRC) in Padang Terap, Kedah Science Technology Park (KSTP) and the development of the Special Border Economic Zone (SBEZ) in Bukit Kayu Hitam.

He said all the initiatives under the Blueprint 2.0 had been coordinated so that they were in line with economic changes, which focused on “inclusive development”.

This development, he said, had macro, micro and grassroots target groups.

“Everything that is planned is focused on public institutions of higher learning, including community colleges, and school-leavers, so that the needs of the workforce can be met for all three projects.

“This means there will be possibilities of employment for our youth, so they won’t have to look for jobs in other countries.

“The sectors where jobs will be on offer are electrical and electronics manufacturing, machinery manufacturing, modern farming and bioindustry, services, logistics and communications.

“These will be spread across 80 projects, big and small: seven development nodes, 28 cross-border projects and 45 high-impact projects.”

Redza was speaking after the “Jelajah Utaraku: Blueprint 2.0” programme at the Napoh Rural Transformation Centre.

He said the three projects would be a boon to those living in those areas and would contribute RM61 million to the nation’s gross domestic product by 2025.

“They are also expected to impact household income by as much as RM12,056, with household income for those in the B40 category expected to rise by RM7,569.”
