help the less fortunate Muslim converts (asnaf mualaf), the Malaysia Islamic Welfare Organisation (Perkim) organised the Selangor Perkim Charity Golf tournament at the Impian Golf & Country Club in Kajang yesterday.

In organising the tournament, held annually since 2016, Perkim managed to raise RM110,000.

Perkim chief executive officer Mokhtar Ismail said the funds will be channeled to bear some of the cost in building the organisation’s first complex in Shah Alam which cost RM8 million and was completed in August last year.

“At the time when I was first appointed as Perkim chief executive officer in 2016, the savings that we had was only about RM800.

“Because of this, I gave the idea to organise a golf tournament to help raise the much needed funds and in its first year in 2016, we manage to raise RM300,000.

“This time round, the funds we collected will be used specifically to pay off the final balance of building the complex,” said Mokhtar.

Mokhtar said the complex, which is in the midst of obtaining its Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC), is hoped to be able to generate funds for Perkim.

“If we were to rent or lease out this complex, I estimate Perkim will be able to earn as much as RM100,000 a month.

“And this will be used to help more less fortunate Muslim converts, because their numbers keep on increasing as days go by,” he said.

Sixty-eight participants took part in the tournament which saw Media Prima Berhad (MPB) and the New Straits Times Press acknowledged as being part of Perkim’s circle of friends.
