“Although it was tiring, learning a new skill brought great satisfacti­on. The training fully prepared us for the camera. All the hard work paid off,” he said.

Remy added: “I’ve had some experience with silat previously, and what I like about it is that it teaches us to achieve inner peace and spiritual balance of the body and mind.

“We filmed in a remote area in Jakarta mostly, and it is a ghetto. But we had a good time neverthele­ss.”

For Hisyam, who never had any experience of self-defence,the opportunit­y to train for a fight was an experience of a lifetime.

“Perhaps I can utilise the skill for future action film projects,” he said with a smile. alongside these talented actors from Indonesia and Malaysia was nerve-wracking.

“I’m still relatively new in the film industry, and I felt the pressure to deliver a good performanc­e.”

Ashraf, who has been based in Jakarta for close to a decade now, following his marriage to Indonesian star Bunga Citra Lestari, said he was extremely glad to part of a project that brought him close to home.

“We filmed parts of the series in Kuala Lumpur in addition to Jakarta. I miss working in Malaysia.

“Maybe it’s time I get more involved with Malaysian projects... we’ll see how it goes,” he said with a smile.
