‘Opposition turmoil doesn’t mean BN, Umno can take it easy’

-

KLUANG: Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein has reminded the party and Barisan Nasional’s election machineries not to take lightly the turmoil faced by the opposition, especially Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM).

He said the weaknesses of the opposition did not mean that Umno and BN were strong. Therefore, their election machineries must play their roles to ensure victory at the 14th General Election.

“We, in Umno and BN, cannot take it easy. When people don’t like or are not confident in the opposition, that does not mean that they know what we (Umno and BN) are doing.

“So, we must go down to the ground and tell them about our struggles,” he said after opening the people-friendly National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) Fiesta at the Paloh public field here yesterday.

Hishammuddin said the fiesta provided an opportunity for people to understand the government’s strategies in developing the country.

He said the initiative by the Finance Ministry had exposed those in rural areas to NBOS initiatives.

“I was involved with NBOS’ implementation in 2009. Back then, no one thought it would become this big. It (NBOS Fiesta) is being expanded to Sembrong, including in Paloh today (yesterday).”

Present was Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Dr Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah.

Hishammuddin, who is also Sembrong member of parliament, said it was not easy to establish NBOS. It was emulated by other countries.

He said NBOS proved that the government had the people’s best interests in mind.

“We work and plan for the people.”

Hishammuddin said NBOS proved that the government could not develop the country on its own, and that it required teamwork.

“This (organising of the NBOS Fiesta) is not only for the election season.

“With the people’s mandate, we can do more than this. If people believe in hate politics and fake news, I’m worried that what is being planned and what has been internationally recognised (NBOS) will not come to fruition.”

At the event, he launched eight new NBOS initiatives with some involving a collaboration between ministries and agencies with the Defence Ministry and the armed forces.

The NBOS Fiesta was the third held in the country. The fiesta was held in Pekan, Pahang, on Sept 23 and Bagan Datuk, Perak, on Nov 19 last year.
