35 suspected gangsters charged

JOHOR BARU: Thirty-five suspected members of Gang 360 were charged in the Sessions Court here yesterday for involvemen­t in organised crime for the past three years.

No pleas were recorded from the suspects, aged between 20 and 69, when the charges were read to them in Mandarin and Tamil by the court translator before judge Jailani Rahman.

They were identified as being part of the Jin Jee Tong Gang, a monicker of Gang 360.

The accused — Seow Hwee Kiang, Lee Boon Hui, Fung Ka Siong, Chua Kah Tat, Mah Jia Fei, Lai Kah Fei, Wilson Chua Yue Hua, Lim Wen Hao, Eugene Chiam Tow Shen, Chan Chun Fei, Yap Boon Chuan, Benny Chang Xin Hao, Lau Fook Soon, Liew Yun Choy, Jacky See Jiin Long, Ng Zhen Lun, Ng Soon Kiat, Lim Heng Kiaw, Wong Jin Wei, Dinesh Balakrishn­an, Sau Kah Kwee, Ong Hwee Hau, Lew Kai Yann, Kok Kat Ting, Koh Xian Ming, Lim Thiam Poon, Eric Mah Wai Soon, Tan Hong Chai, Tan Chee Hong, Leong Wen Hao, Gan Jia Ji, Yip Kah Hao, Fong Ling Chiow and Leong Zhong Hen — were charged with being part of an organised crime group, which carries a jail sentence of between five and 20 years, upon conviction.

Another suspect, Tan Xiang Wei, 22, was charged with abetting the gang in its operation, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years, upon conviction.

They were charged with committing the offences between Jan 1, 2015 and Jan 14 this year.

The arrests came following investigat­ions into the murder of a gang member at a petrol station in Taman Pelangi on Dec 17.

The judge fixed March 12 for case mention. No bail was offered.
