5.2 MILLION STUDENTS TO GET RM2.9B AID
Ministry spends RM8,000 on each student every year, says education D-G
THE Education Ministry has allocated RM2.9 billion to help 5.2 million students this year. Education director-general Datuk Dr Amin Senin said the ministry prioritised students’ needs, hence the allocation for education aid was increased every year.
“The ministry spends RM8,000 on each student yearly.
“Sometimes, the public does not know these things.
“The aim of the Education Tour (Jelajah Pendidikan) programme is to explain to people that there is no compromise when it comes to education.”
Amin said the government, through the ministry, had been consistent in helping students.
“More than 5.2 million students will benefit from an allocation of RM2.9 billion this year.
“We have allocated RM221.4 million for three categories — general aid (RM133.5 million), special aid (RM45.7 million) and one-off aid (RM42.3 million).
“Education-related expenses in Malaysia are double the amount from those in other Asean countries,” said after officiating the programme at the Hulu Langat district education office yesterday.
Amin said the programme boosted interaction between the ministry and the public.
“With the National Blue Ocean Strategy as its theme, the programme explains services and opportunities in the education system.
“This programme showcases the ministry’s efforts in developing students to meet global challenges.”
Amin said: “We have provided them with holistic assessments, quality teachers and administrators.”
More than 6,000 visitors attended the programme at the Hulu Langat education district office during the weekend.
The programme will be held in five other locations — Langkawi, Kedah, from Feb 22 to 24, Pasir Puteh, Kelantan, (March 8 to 10), Parit Buntar, Perak, (March 30 to April 1), Temerloh, Pahang, (April 13 to 15), and Tawau, Sabah, (April 20 to 22).
