Two brothers killed in birthday brawl
PETALING JAYA: Two brothers were killed over a misunderstanding at a birthday celebration at Blok B Flat Damansara Bistari in Section 19, at 2.30am yesterday
The siblings, aged 44 and 36, of Batu 7, Jalan Damansara, and some 30 guests, including women and children, had adjourned to a tent in front of the flats at 11.30pm after celebrating the 21st birthday of the daughter of a mutual friend at a restaurant.
Petaling Jaya deputy police chief Superintendent Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said there had been a heated exchange between the victims and some of the guests.
“Most of them were intoxicated. For now, we are unsure about the root cause of the argument, which resulted in a few guests attacking the brothers with a sharp object, which we believe was a parang.
“Both of them were badly injured, and medical personnel confirmed that they were dead.”
Police have detained eight individuals, including a woman, aged between 30 and 50, to assist in investigations.
“Many of those detained were guests at the wedding, including the birthday bash organiser.
“The weapons used to attack the victims were found at the crime scene,” Ku Mashariman added.
The bodies were sent to Universiti Malaya Medical Centre for a post-mortem.
“I didn’t hear anything, maybe because it happened while we were asleep.
“We know the hosts since they have been living here for more than 11 years. They had asked for our permission to put up a tent for the birthday event,” said a resident, who wished to remain anonymous.
