Selangor Pakatan renegotiating state seat allocation
SHAH ALAM: Selangor Pakatan Harapan held a meeting again on Monday night to renegotiate the allocation of state seats in the 14th General Election (GE14).
The opposition last week finalised allocation of 36 out of the 56 state assembly seats to be contested by DAP, PKR, Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM).
PPBM information chief Sallehuddin Amiruddin said the renegotiation of state seats allocation was held following protests by PPBM and PAN.
“I can confirm there is a renegotiation.
“PPBM is confident it will be resolved in good standSungai ing,” he said here yesterday.
Sallehuddin said the next seat allocation discussion would take place after the Chinese New Year holidays.
“The date of the negotiation has yet to be fixed.”
He said state Pakatan chairman Datuk Seri Azmin Ali had said that seat negotiations would continue until Parliament was dissolved.
It was previously reported that the state Pakatan’s special meeting on the seat allocation for GE14 had failed to reach a consensus.
According to sources, based on initial discussions, PKR would contest 19 state seats; DAP, 18; PPBM, 10; and PAN, nine.
Selangor PPBM had rejected a statement by state Pakatan ecretary Zuraida Kamarudin that the meeting had completed the distribution of 36 state seats.
PPBM also criticised PKR’s stand and DAP’s refusal to negotiate the three parties’ overlapping seats involving 12 Barisan Nasional (BN) state seats they were seeking to contest.
In the 13th General Election (GE13), BN won 12 seats— Burong, Jeram, Kuang, Semenyih, Permatang, Bukit Malawati, Sungai Air Tawar, Sungai Panjang, Hulu Bernam, Batang Kali, Kota Damansara and Dengkil. Meanwhile, PAN was adamant about contesting seats won by Pas in GE13. The seats are Taman Templer, Lembah Jaya, Paya Jaras, Chempaka, Meru, Dusun Tua, Tanjung Sepat, Sabak, Gombak Setia, Bangi, Seri Serdang, Selat Klang, Sijangkang, Morib and Hulu Klang.
Hulu Klang assemblyman Saari Sungib and his Morib counterpart, Hasnul Baharuddin, had since left Pas to join PAN.
The current state assembly breakdown sees DAP holding 14 seats, PKR, 13; Pas, 13; BN, 12; PAN, 2; and independents, two.
The two independents are Pelabuhan Klang assemblyman Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim and Teluk Datuk assemblyman Loh Chee Heng.
