THE annual TV3 music awards show Anugerah Juara Lagu’s 32nd edition (AJL32) was “big” on numbers, grabbing the attention of 6.1 million viewers nationwide.
The three-hour show, broadcast live on TV3 from Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil at 9pm on Sunday, attracted 56.3 per cent of television viewers.
Media Prima Television Networks chief executive officer Johan Ishak yesterday said that viewership peaked at 4.2 million when Best Song winner Hael Husaini Razmi performed his catchy but haunting number Jampi.
“Viewership grew from last year, where we had 3.6 million.
“Many have given us good feedback on the futuristic stage design, which looked splendid, as well as the performances by 12 finalists, guest artistes and the entertaining co-hosts.
“Viewers loved this year’s theme, Fashion and Music, and described it as the best season.
“This has set a benchmark for future editions of the awards.”
Johan said the finalists were a “winning combination of old and new”, whose presence boosted digital platform viewership by 100 per cent.
“This showed that their songs were enjoyed by many people.”
He thanked sponsors Nivea and Samsung for supporting the awards, as well as the production team who worked round the clock to ensure it ran smoothly.
Johan revealed that video streaming platform tonton, which telecast the awards live in high definition, saw a 121 per cent increase in viewership (350,000) compared with last year.
Tonton began its telecast at 8.30pm with the arrival of guests on the red carpet and screened the Backstage Live segment featuring the finalists’ preparations.
“More than 73,000 watched tonton’s After Party Rated Xtra on Facebook, which lasted an hour from midnight.
“The red carpet attracted 80,000, while new portal xtra.com.my recorded 160,000 viewers on Facebook,” he said, adding that AJL32 trended at No. 1 locally and internationally.
“About 3.5 million Facebook subscribers used #AJL32 throughout its live telecast,” he said.
