SYIHAN WANTS DOPING TEST AGAIN

Goalkeeper slapped with 60-day temporary suspension

-

THE FAM confirmed yesterday that national Under-23 goalkeeper Ahmad Syihan Hazmi Mohamed has requested for his B sample to be tested. He tested positive for a banned substance earlier.

Syihan’s B sample was tested on Monday. His A sample test, done during the AFC Under-23 Championship in Changshu, China, on Jan 10, came out positive for metabolite methandienone.

Syihan, 22, was picked to undergo a doping test after Malaysia’s first Group C match against Iraq at the Changshu Stadium on Jan 10.

Syihan did not play throughout the championship as coach Ong Kim Swee fielded Ifwat Akmal Chek Kassim against Iraq, and Haziq Nadzli for Malaysia’s remaining three fixtures, until the quarterfinal loss to South Korea.

FAM secretary general Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said FAM received a letter from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) on Feb 6, stating that Syihan had tested positive for metabolite methandienne, a banned substance listed by the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada)

“Following this, AFC’s ethics and disciplinary committee chairman decided that Syihan is guilty under article 6 of AFC’s anti-doping rules and has been slapped with a 60-day temporary suspension from taking part in any football activities including domestic matches, friendly matches and official matches.

“Effective immediately, Syihan is barred from featuring for his team Negri Sembilan beginning with the second Super League match against Kuala Lumpur at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi last Wednesday (Feb 7) even though he had played in the first match against PKNP FC on Feb 3.

“Syihan has requested that his B sample be tested and it has been done yesterday, so now all we have to do is wait for the result if it remains positive or negative instead,” said Hamidin yesterday.

“AFC will take further action after receiving the official result of the B sample test and for now, Syihan will not be able to play for Negri Sembilan throughout the 60 day suspension period.”
