PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak hopes that the Chinese New Year will lead to an “encouraging result” for the ruling party in the 14th General Election.

Najib, who was commenting on Barisan Nasional’s expectations at the polls this year, pointed out that the country’s economy grew 5.9 per cent last year.

“Hopefully, the Chinese New Year will lead to an encouraging outcome for the government.

“The people’s happiness is palpable, especially when the economy is growing, stock (values) are appreciating, and confidence in the country’s future (is strengthening).

“This Chinese New Year is celebrated in an atmosphere of mirth and merriment,” Najib said during an interview with TV3 at the MCA Chinese New Year open house on Friday.

Present at the event were Najib’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong, MIC president Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam, MyPPP president Tan Sri M. Kayveas, Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

Najib had also attended Gerakan’s open house at its headquarters at Menara PGRM here, joining thousands who were already in attendance.

Najib and Rosmah, who were greeted upon arrival by Gerakan’s top leadership, were ushered in by the beating of drums and a lion dance performance.

Among the highlights of the open house was a full orchestral performance.

Najib and BN leaders then tossed the yee sang; after which Rosmah handed out gifts to orphans.
