‘WE HAVE NO STRENGTH TO CELEBRATE FESTIVAL’

- MOHD SHAFUAN KHAIRI

THE arrival of the Lunar New Year is not a cause for celebration for three siblings, whose parents and brother were murdered at their home last year. For Kha Xing Faye, 20, Xing Rhuu, 16, and Xing Shyan, 9, the festival is a painful reminder of what they once had.

Nevertheless, the three surviving members of the Kha family marked the arrival of the Year of the Dog with a simple meal at their home and by visiting the houses of relatives.

“We are still sad over the loss.

“We have no (strength) to celebrate this Chinese New Year.

“We only made simple preparations for the festival,” Xing Faye said at a relative’s house in Kampung Cina here yesterday.

The trio’s sadness is exacerbated by the fact that they had to be separated following the tragedy.

“Xing Rhuu and I live at our parent’s house in Bachok, while Xing Shyan lives with our relative in Gua Musang. (We decided that it was best for Xing Shyan). Although we are sad over the (separation), we have accepted it,” Xing Faye said.

However, they had a pleasant surprise yesterday when businessman Datuk Seri Sunny Ung visited them. Touched by their plight, Ung promised to provide them with monthly aid and to support their schooling.

On Nov 15, the siblings’ parents and 13year-old brother were found murdered at their home in Taman Bahagia near Wakaf Mek Zainab here.

Trader Kha Eng Ni, 42, and his wife, Chua Joo Seok, 37, were found with stab wounds on their chests. Their son, Kha Zee Hanz, had been clobbered with a sharp object on the head in the 2.30pm incident.

Police identified a worker for the family as a suspect in the murders. He is still at large.
