‘CCTV footage did not show victim being assaulted’

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The death of a man in front of an entertainment outlet in Jalan Hang Kasturi here on Friday is believed to be due to a drug overdose, and not assault.

Six bouncers from the entertainment outlet have been arrested following the incident, which took place about 11pm.

Dang Wangi district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shaharudin Abdullah said police obtained closed-circuit television camera recordings from the outlet shortly after the incident.

He said the footages did not show the victim being assaulted by the bouncers, as previously claimed.

“The claim that the victim was assaulted was made by the victim’s friend, who did not witness the incident,”

“Nevertheless, the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, based on the initial police report, at least until we receive the full forensic report from Kuala Kubu Baru Hospital.”

Shaharudin said police would record a statement from the doctor who treated the victim to establish the cause of death.

“The bouncers have been remanded until today (yesterday).”

In the incident, 14 people, including six bouncers, were arrested to aid the probe into the death of the man. The victim had gone to the club with his friend around 11pm. Four hours later, another friend received word that one of them had been assaulted.

The victim was later found outside the club, and was brought to the Hospital. However, the doctor who treated the victim confirmed that he died before arriving at the hospital.

Initial investigations had suggested that the man, who was drunk, had been involved in a fight. Urine tests later showed that he tested positive for ketamine.
