Ismail Sabri: Namewee has crossed the line
BERA: Stern action must be taken against controversial artist Namewee as the government cannot compromise on his provocative behaviour.
Describing Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, as having gone overboard, Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said immediate action was necessary before certain quarters played the race and religion cards.
He said there were also concerns that “extremists” might take matters into their own hands and launch an attack against Namewee over his recent Chinese New Year-themed video clip, Like A Dog.
“Namewee has crossed the line. He does not respect the multiracial people living in harmony in the country.
“We cannot compromise on these type of individuals. He has done it several times and is trying to provoke.
“Namewee is rude to Malays. He is trying to challenge us and if he wants to dance like in the clip, he should have done it in the jungle or elsewhere,” he said after attending the “Kenduri Kampung” programme in Kampung Paya Mengkuang Ladang surau near here yesterday.
Ismail Sabri, who is Bera member of parliament and rural and regional development minister, said the Home Ministry and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission must be stern and not let him off the hook.
“Appropriate action has to be taken so that he will not repeat such acts and it will serve as a reminder.
“Before things get out of hand, it is best for the authorities to arrest him for investigations.”
Present at the event were Bera Umno division Youth chief Mohd Zoolihsan Ahmad and Puteri Umno chief Salmiah Abd Rahman.
