‘STATE BOASTS 144 SUCCESS STORIES’
BN’s successes will be showcased during expo, says Terengganu MB
THERE are at least 144 success stories that can be used to gauge Barisan Nasional’s (BN) ability to run Terengganu since it came into power after the last general election. Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said BN’s success over the last five years could be seen in six sectors — social, religious, economic, sports, education and physical development.
“After winning the last general election with just 17 out of the 32 state seats, and faced with falling oil prices which impacted our economy, we (BN) undoubtedly faced numerous challenges.
“However, we achieved no less than 144 success stories during the time that I led the state government, both at local and international levels. These successes can be attributed to the transformation plan that was undertaken.
“They have also placed Terengganu on track to achieve the eight per cent Gross Domestic Product target for 2020 and an average household income of RM8,000,” he said at Sri Pentas here yesterday.
Razif appeared on TV3’s Malaysia Hari Ini programme to talk about the Terengganu Expo 2018, which will be held from Feb 25 to March 3 at the Terengganu Sports Complex. The expo will also showcase BN’s successes.
Elaborating on plans that had been successfully undertaken, Razif said Terengganu’s tourism industry was flourishing as the state had world-standard infrastructure.
He said unique products from the state, like keropok lekor and nasi dagang, had made it into international markets and were being exported to the United Kingdom, Singapore and Australia.
“Before, we used to send 2,000 packs of nasi dagang and keropok lekor to the UK, but they were sold out within a month. We will increase this to 20,000 packs to meet the growing demand.”
He cited the success story of entrepreneurs like Mohd Sulaiman Umar, who had made it big through programmes like Graduan Usahawan Terengganu.
He said Sulaiman, who had a background in engineering, chose to become a shrimp farmer, making him a millionaire.
On housing, Razif said the Terengganu government had constructed 10,000 affordable homes at a cost of RM140,000 each, but were being sold for only RM68,000 each.
