Remand for mum held over maid abuse extended

-

BUKIT MERTAJAM: The remand on the 60-year-old woman detained in connection with the abuse and death of an Indonesian maid here, has been extended by seven days.

Seberang Perai Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said the woman’s initial remand expired yesterday.

The woman is the mother of two siblings, aged 36 and 39, who were the employers of Adelina Lisao, 26. The siblings were de- tained on Feb 12 on suspicion of abuse.

Adelina was rescued from her employer’s home in Taman Kota Permai, Bukit Mertajam, on Feb 11 after it was reported that she was physically abused and was made to sleep on the porch with a dog.

She was found with severe injuries on her head and face, and infected wounds on her hands and legs.

She died the following day at Seberang Jaya Hospital after suffering multiple organ failure linked to anaemia.

Nik Ros said a post-mortem headed by Dr Amir Saad Abdul Rahim at the hospital found that the maid suffered from severe neglect and blood loss.

“We do not rule out that the woman was neglected for a long time until she died.

“Everything will be investigated.”

The case is being probed under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
