‘Most authentic’ Bollywood show to arrive in KL
fans, take note. A special segment dedicated to Malaysians will premiere in Kuala Lumpur as part of the Mystic India: The World Tour from April 5 to 11 at Istana Budaya.
Mystic India marks Istana Budaya’s first celebration of all things Indian in a decade, and is renowned as the “most authentic and stunning Bollywood Broadway show”.
Fusing traditional arts, such as bharatanatyam, with modern Bollywood songs and dances, Mystic India merges street entertainment from Mumbai and New York to create an explosion of colour and culture.
Its 30 multiracial dancers are dressed in 750 costumes made in Gujarat, and they interact on state-of-the-art sets that support high-energy movements.
The show is brought to Malaysia by Eeman Corporation Sdn Bhd.
Eeman Corp promotions and events head Gavin Singh said: “Mystic India is from the United States, and will open at several Asian destinations, beginning with Kuala Lumpur.
“The show’s Asian tour will include Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand.”
The 100-minute show is the brainchild of American choreographer Amit Shah, who heads AATMA Performing Arts in New Jersey, the US.
“As a renowned creative director and choreographer, Amit has worked with Bollywood icons, such as A.R. Rahman, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, John Abraham and Datuk Shah Rukh Khan, in numerous projects over the last seven years,” Gavin said.
He said the showcase had enthralled audiences in four continents, and was performed more than 500 times in Bahrain, Canada, the US, South Africa and Europe.
“With half a million people watching it globally, this dance spectacular is ready to take KL on an unforgettable journey. Worldclass Bollywood presented a la Broadway.”
He said Mystic India brought viewers on a cultural journey across India’s 29 states and seven territories.
“It has got dozens of Bollywood songs from various decades and the latest chart-toppers.
“Other than that, it also delivers evergreen folk songs accompanied by dances with an everchanging backdrop of Indian sights and sounds.”
Mozart of Madras Rahman’s music will be featured prominently, along with the works of Vishal Shekhar, Sulaiman Sekha and Amit.
Gavin said a Bollywood celebrity would attend the premiere on April 5, but did not mention who.
