Uphill task for MBPJ against UiTM

- Singh Jugjet

Jaya City Council (MBPJ) are expected to face a torrid time when they play Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) in the quarter-finals of the President’s Cup at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil today.

The university side were unbeaten en route to winning the Division One title.

MBPJ team manager Norazizah Mukijan said her team are the underdogs against UiTM.

“We have 10 juniors in the team and they are playing for exposure.

“As for UiTM, they are an established side who recently won the league title while it is only our second appearance in the competition,” said Norazizah.

Last year, MBPJ failed to reach the quarter-finals.

“It is unfortunate that we have been drawn against the strongest team in the quarterfinals,” Norazizah added.

In the other quarter-finals, Division One runners-up Politeknik will start as the favourites against Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) while Kedah, with six foreign players, play Penang.

Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports (SSTMI) will battle Ipoh City Council in the other last-eight match.

FIXTURES: TODAY — President’s Cup, quarter-finals: Kedah v Penang (Sungai Petani Stadium, 4.45pm), UiTM v MBPJ (Pitch I; 6pm), SSTMI vs Ipoh CC (Pitch II; 6pm), Politeknik v BJSS (Pitch II; 8pm).
