PROTEST AGAINST DR M AS PM CANDIDATE

150 PPBM Youth members hand over memo to Anwar

- RIZANIZAM ABDUL HAMID

SOME 150 Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) Youth members yesterday handed a memorandum to PKR leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to protest the selection of PPBM chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as Pakatan Harapan’s candidate for prime minister.

The Youth members took the opportunity to hand the twopage document to Anwar, who is undergoing treatment at the Cheras Rehabilitation Hospital, following his shoulder operation in November last year.

Ex-PPBM Youth exco member Muhd Syazwan Ahmad Zainal said among the main points of the memorandum was asking for Anwar’s intervention to resolve the crisis faced by the opposition pact’s component parties.

“We are asking Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to do something to resolve the chaos in Pakatan Harapan (PH), including the distribution of state seats, which continues to this day.

“We object to the decision by PH in selecting Dr Mahathir as its PM candidate as it is wellknown that PPBM is a supporter of Anwar’s ‘reformasi’ movement.

“Dr Mahathir, during his reign, had opposed Anwar, so we cannot accept the former prime minister as the pact’s PM candidate,” he said.

Syazwan claimed that Anwar, as Pakatan’s founding member, had the authority to act and prevent the pact from being used by Dr Mahathir for his own agenda.

“Dr Mahathir is only using the pact to return to power in Putrajaya as he has his own interests at stake,” he said.
