Mukhriz taken to task for calling Langkawi allocation ‘dedak’

-

ALOR STAR: Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir has been described as a hypocrite for politicising the RM1.3 billion allocation for Langkawi announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak on Saturday.

Jerlun Umno acting chief Datuk Abu Hassan Sharif said as a former Kedah menteri besar, Mukhriz should know that the allocation was the government’s responsibility.

He said the allocation announced by the prime minister proved that the Federal Government was committed to helping the people on the island.

“As a former leader, Mukhriz should know that the allocation is not ‘dedak’ (animal feed), but a leader’s responsibility.

“In fact, allocations are given not only during a general election. When Kedah or any state received allocation from the Federal Government, why didn’t Mukhriz call it ‘dedak’? Why did he use that term after joining the opposition?”

Abu Hassan said this at the “Jualan Sentuhan Rakyat” programme organised by Jerlun Umno in Jerlun yesterday.

He was commenting on the deputy president of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s claims that the allocation announced by Najib for Langkawi was equivalent to “dedak”.

He said Mukhriz’s attitude showed that the opposition had no strength to garner support from the people and, instead, sought to disrupt the nation’s peace and harmony.

“Mukhriz should not make such an accusation. He should remember that he was once the menteri besar.”

Abu Hassan, who is Kota Siputeh assemblyman, said Mukhriz, during his tenure, failed to bring development to Langkawi or fight for the people of Kedah.

Najib, during his visit to Langkawi on Saturday, had announced a mammoth RM1.3 billion allocation for five infrastructure projects in the island.

They are for water catchment projects, upgrading of Langkawi Hospital, and construction of fire stations and personnel quarters, as well as roads.
