FOR over 20 years, Indonesian beauty brand Wardah has been famous for its halal cosmetics. Last year, after seven years of research and development, it came up with its White Secret series, a brightening range. The series comprises products for day and night, including a brightening cleanser, facial wash, day cream, exfoliating lotion and scrub, intense brightening essence and night cream.

The products have a combination of active ingredients which work together in a three-part process to brighten skin.

The first step is skin moisturisation, which is important to balance and condition skin for optimum absorption of the brightening active ingredients. The second step is the brightening process, which works by protecting skin from UVA and UVB rays, and preventing free radical reaction, slowing down skin pigmentation, inhibiting melanin production and removing dead skin cells.

The last step in the process is protecting and maintaining skin radiance.

Wardah brand manager Shabrina Salsabila says the development of the White Secret series followed the halal criteria.

“That is the reason why it took seven years to develop it. We had to make sure the imported raw materials, the machinery and the process used to create each product were halal-certified.

“We use high technology and materials that are not harmful to the skin. At the same time, the products are affordable,” she says.

The White Secret series helps to increase skin elasticity and gives clear radiant skin within 14 days.

The products were tested on women who said their skin felt smoother and softer, with fewer dark spots, and was more moist and brighter.

“The derma peptide technology helps prevent inflammation which helps the brightening process to work more effectively. The day cream has SPF35 to protect skin from UVA and UVB exposure. It is formulated with an advanced-white specific system and derma-peptide technology to make it absorb easily into the skin.”

The intense brightening essence serum is formulated to boost the lightening process, with silver vine extract to promote skin transparency and hydrating agents to maintain vitality of the skin. It works to cover dark spots and lighten and even out skin tone.

Set up in 1995, Wardah is one of Indonesia’s leading halal cosmetics manufacturers. Its products are halal-certified by Majlis Ugama Islam Indonesia, which is recognised by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia.

It ventured into Malaysia, its only overseas market, in 2012 and the products are sold in Watson.

Wardah White Secret series is priced from RM17.60 to RM68.90.

We had to make sure the imported raw materials, the machinery and the process used to create each product were halal-certified.
