More than just financial aid

beauty brand Fair & Lovely will once again award RM200,000 worth of scholarships through the Fair & Lovely Scholarship.

The scholarship aims to encourage women to pursue their dreams and enjoy a brighter future through education. In its third year, the scholarship has helped 80 young women since 2016 and now, it is offering more than just financial aid.

This year, Fair & Lovely will be facilitating the development of a virtual community for all its scholarship recipients. They will be able to interact within the community and obtain latest updates from Unilever Malaysia on events, such as workshops on interview skills, and career and leadership insights for women by Unilever Malaysia’s female executives.

Lin Meiyi, brand manager of Fair & Lovely, Unilever (Malaysia) Holdings Sdn Bhd, said: “We also provide industrial placements with Unilever Malaysia, which will be announced on the virtual community platform. Recipients who apply for the internship placement have an added advantage as they will be prioritised for the screening process.

“Through the scholarship, we are creating unique professional development tools to help young women to be more confident in pursuing their education, career and dreams.”

This year, another 40 deserving young women will have the opportunity to receive the Fair & Lovely Scholarship. It is open to women who are currently enrolled in diploma and degree studies at local public universities. Applicants should have a minimum CGPA of 3.0 and an active cocurriculum background. The final 40 women, with the highest votes, will be chosen from seven participating local public universities.

Last year, the scholarship was wellreceived, with a 50 per cent higher application rate and 12,044 applications from 23 public universities compared to 2016’s 8,000 applications.

Nur Qurratuani Abdul Malek, one of the 2017 scholarship recipients, from UiTM Shah Alam said: “I grew up in Pahang and I have six siblings. Before I enrolled in UiTM, I used to work as a part-timer and had to juggle work and studies.

“But ever since I received the scholarship, my family’s burden has been lifted and I am now closer to realising my dreams.

“Now Fair & Lovely goes beyond a scholarship by providing opportunities through a fast-track interview for internship placements in Unilever. I am now inspired to further my education in my field of interest.”
