RoS URGED TO ACT FAST AGAINST PPBM IF IT BREACHED REGULATIONS
1,000 PPBM members hold protest
THE Registry of Societies (RoS) must take action against Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) if the party is found to have breached its constitution.
PPBM founding member and former executive secretary Kamarul Azman Habibur Rahman said RoS must not give special treatment to the party.
“Why is it hesitant to act against PPBM?
“Just because the party is led by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, special treatment is accorded to it.
“This should not be so as this is a form of injustice,” he said, after handing a memorandum to RoS management division director Mohd Rejab Ramli.
Kamarul Azman led a peaceful protest by some 1,000 PPBM members in front of RoS’ headquarters.
Clad in red T-shirts, PPBM members staged the rally to urge RoS to act against the party for alleged violations of its constitution.
A statement that was handed out said no action had been taken even though more than 400 complaints against PPBM and its leaders had been submitted to RoS.
“This can lead to more problems, especially in breaching the party’s constitution, which is tantamount to betraying party members and leaders who are brave enough to speak out about discrepancies relating to the constitution.”
It said party chairman Dr Mahathir had acted like a dictator by labelling those who pointed out the mistakes allegedly committed by party leaders as “garbage” and “useless”.
“This is uncalled for and should not be emulated by party members and leaders.
“The party belongs to the people and not for anyone’s interest, especially certain party leaders.”
The statement said party members had every right to lodge complaints with RoS on discrepancies in PPBM.
It said the party leadership was facing a growing crisis.
It claimed that party leaders at the central, state and divisional levels had been sacked without going through disciplinary processes.
“The party cannot function well if the violation of its constitution continues.”
The statement said party members would hold a bigger rally in front of the Prime Minister’s Office should RoS fail to act.
