Don: BN can even win two-thirds majority
KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional should not have problems winning the 14th General Election (GE14) with a simple majority, based on the government’s achievements.
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities dean Professor Dr Mohd Fuad Mat Jali yesterday said BN could even win a twothirds majority.
He said the key factor was that people were rejecting Pakatan Harapan under the influence of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“The results of a questionnaire by UKM researchers last month found that respondents do not want to vote for Pakatan Harapan because they do not agree with Dr Mahathir as the opposition pact’s candidate for prime minister.
“At the same time, (peoplecentric projects such as) MRT, BR1M (1Malaysia People’s Aid) and KR1M (Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia) have captivated voters.”
He was speaking after presenting a working paper at a roundtable discussion on GE14 titled “BN to stay or...?” by the National Council of Professors.
Fuad said that based on the same questionnaire, BN was expected to win 55.4 per cent of votes for parliamentary seats.
He said Johor would remain a BN strong-hold, with the coalition expected to receive 57.6 per cent of votes, based on responses from 4,000 people in the state.
On state seats, questionnaire results indicate BN would receive 58.1 per cent of the votes.
